photoshoot

D donned her brand spanking new anthro coat {or the taza coat as I call it} today and I used it as the perfect excuse to experiment with the new cam. We had a little outing for some super last minute Christmas shopping. It didn't quite work out... so we got some banging coffee instead.

p.s. check out that manicure with her one sparkle nail, so festive!

Christmas Present to myself.

Guess who just got a new camera... this girl! It's my very first dslr: Nikon D3100. I'm still learning how to work it, but here are some of my first few shots. My little models were so photogenic!

Today sully got to share in the limelight and pose with me. Then cinders {the kitty} got a little jealous and nudged her way into the photo too. love them. Also loving being home with the family. Me and mom fought the crowds and braved the mall today for some last minute Christmas shopping. Great deals out there people. It's for sure worth it, but we are sleeping good tonight!

Let the Christmas festivities begin!

 belt:vintagecoach//dress:luckypenny//blazer:jcrew//shoes:ninewest

These photos pretty much sum up my Saturday.
One of the Rogers annual family traditions {specifically my favorite tradition}  is to get dressed up and go to Winston Salems' School of the Arts presentation of the Nutcracker. Watching all of these young and talented people always makes me wish I had taken up ballet as a kid.
Our outfits included corduroy blazers, elbow patches, wedge booties, and infinity scarves. We were lookin' sharp if I do say so myself.
Our night was complete after riding around looking at christmas lights while gorging ourselves with Krispy Kreme doughnuts{yes the hot now sign was on}
Sucessful night i'd say.

namaste

This gorgeous photo
I found it from from Lilie Zen Coach, an inspiring little yoga blog I follow.
Yoga.
So I know its the "trendy" thing to do now, but yoga is seriously my jam and has been for years. I love everything about it: the fact that it's exercise, the mindset it requires, the beauty of the poses, and especially the savasana[meditation/still time] at the end. Nothing will clear a head like a good yoga practice. Luckily my university offers free yoga classes multiple times a week! During this exam week yoga has been my saving grace. I have made a pact with myself to do it every morning with a cup of organic green tea before breakfast. {Green tea is also my jam. It wakes me up like coffee does, but without all of the jitters!} I set up in my little corner up with my yoga mat music and tea and just go with the flow of whatever I'm feeling at the time.
Healthy Habits in the making friends!

An interesting fact? Yoga was popularized in America by The Beatles, only my favorite band of all time.

Nate says hi

please excuse my prolonged absence from the blog world while I delve into this nightmare of exam week.
{I tried to find an interesting old photo to make the post a little less boring. Nate found me.}

and everything was blue

I had an exceptionally productive day today! I kick started my goal to do yoga every morning with vigilance {I'm sure I will be feeling that tomorrow}. Got some Christmas shopping done for the brother in law...that's a new one. Of course I couldn't go shopping without buying something for myself, but fear not! I got great phenomenal deals. Even the sales associate commented on the steal that I had just made. Oh yeah, and did I mention that it was the last day of classes? So wonderful day all in all.
happy weekend!

2011 Christmas Wishlist

I present to you my official Christmas list via polyvore! Just discovered this little gem of a website and I am in love. I'm sure I will think of more things I would like to add, but for now here it is!

On a side note: while compiling my list, I listened to this christmas mix via 8tracks. It puts a different spin on some classic Christmas songs, and presents some new ones altogether. I'm a fan.

De-Stressing

It's a dreary and rainy day here in boonetown. The day didn't start off that well due to the minimal amount to sleep I got in efforts to maximize my study time for my last big Chemistry test, but I am now done stressing over tests and on to trudging through the last week of studying for finals and writing papers.

And so with the coming of the end of semester stresses I give you:
5 ways to De-stress
[in no particular order]
first. shopping. It seems to be the go-to thing this semester. So... {drumroll} ...I finally just bought the perfect LBD. Hoping to wear it to the nutcracker with my family...or the work christmas party..or to the christmas eve lovefeast service... or I might just mix and match and wear it to all three occasions! I would show you a photo but it came not from an online vendor or a big powerhouse brand, but our very own cute little boutique in Boone: Lucky Penny! Their clothes are seriously to die for. I will be doing further Christmas shopping there!

So I know, that was kind of an expensive de-stressor. If you have no extra cash, you could just pretend to shop!
I do all the time. Like this:
I want these. seriously. urban: I love you, I do, but I do not need to spend anymore money today. For now little boot you will stay in my wish list folder.

second.Music. One of the best de-stressors out there. Turn it on a drift away into relaxation! Current playlist playing? My Christmas one of course! But more specifically, the Nutcracker Ballet. It always brings back nostalgic memories of decorating and dancing around the Christmas tree with sister as kids (yes I actually remember). We go most every year... It might even be my favorite Christmas tradition!

third:Cleaning. Nothing says no stress like a clean organized space. Bring on the Feng shui! Out with the clutter and explosion of clothes and in with the fresh air and floor space! I will feel so accomplished when I am done...right now obviously am procrastinating by blogging, but I'll get it done...eventually.

fourth:Exercise. A big one. Release those endorphins and get better sleep! I used to be a bit of a yogi, however this semester I have let it fall to the way side. It's easy to do with the craziness of the semester but I want to will get back in that habit. With all this floor space, I'll have the room to do all the sun salutations I want!
via

fifth:This is another big one: Sleep! I'm never more stressed out than when I haven't gotten enough sleep. When presented with the choice to do some last minute cramming or get a good nights rest, choose sleep! Trust me. For now, a nice long nap on this rainy day is going to happen. I won't be seeing that stress for a looong while.

How do you de-stress? any tips?

This music video.
How stinkin' cute is it?! The girl in the bed is Becca, a friend from back in the day. {She is doing vocals and the fiddle part} Her band Baby Rattlesnakes is out of Asheville, NC. I'm a fan. Check em out!
